INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY: 200 Million People Currently Internet Literacy

Communication and Informatics Department estimates there are now more than 200 million people in Indonesia who are illiterate internet.

"Therefore, we aim to be up to the year 2015 the number of internet users have been half the population or about 117 million people," said Director of the Directorate General of Empowerment Telematics Telematics Applications Depkominfo, Azkar Badri, in Palangkaraya, Thursday (7-1).

Badri said Azkar present condition of the entire population of Indonesia, amounting to around 230 million people, only 20 million people in them have received Internet access. Meanwhile, about 200 million to 210 million other people still can enjoy internet access as well as regional constraints of limited knowledge.

To accomplish the target that the next five years, every year at least required the expansion of internet access to be able to reach more than 20 million inhabitants. Depkominfo also asked for commitment and political will of local governments to support the expansion of Internet access that local governments know better considering the condition of residents in their respective regions.
